For too long, a reactionary mindset has led to slow-walked timelines, unmanageable classroom caseloads—including a staggering 30% annual turnover in our special education department—and rushed feedback windows that offer families no meaningful voice.
Dr. Eric Garber is running for the WJUSD Board of Trustees to bring experienced, proactive leadership that directly addresses these systemic failures. By establishing plain-language transparency dashboards to track budget and bond promises, investing in competitive teacher compensation to stabilize our classrooms, and hosting regular pre-vote office hours and neighborhood town halls, Eric will replace empty reactions with true accountability and accessible, responsive representation for Area 7.
Guiding Principles
Proactive Transparency & Accountability: Moving beyond basic compliance to provide plain-language summaries of board decisions and public dashboards that track bond projects, builder fees, and district spending. We will honor our commitments so that taxpayers and parents always know how resources are being used.
Stability for Our Classrooms: Restructuring district supports to eliminate the unmanageable caseloads and high teacher turnover plaguing vital programs like special education. By securing competitive regional compensation and healthcare, we will stop losing our best educators to neighboring districts.
Teacher-Grounded Policy: Prioritizing the voices of classroom teachers and site staff by establishing direct feedback channels before implementing district-wide initiatives, ensuring high-level mandates match daily classroom realities.
Accessible, Representation-First Leadership: Creating a functional bridge between Trustee Area 7 families and the school board. Through scheduled neighborhood listening sessions, local park events, and informal community office hours prior to major board votes, your priorities will guide my actions.
